Kinetic was one of four design studios students participated in for the Making+Meaning 2023 Summer digital design program at SCI-Arc. This Making + Meaning section focused on exploring the concept of Kinetic (Motion) through Procedural Modeling and Animation in Cinema 4D (C4D). 

The workshop was grounded in the theory that architecture can transcend its static nature and become dynamic and interactive by integrating objects in motion. By leveraging procedural modeling and animation techniques, students would better understand how form and motion intertwine, creating dynamic spatial experiences. This workshop encouraged students to question traditional notions of architecture and embrace the potential of discovery in the design process that engages with the senses and evokes an emotional response.

Participants engaged in a formal exploration of procedural volumes using motion design and active boolean. The workshop aimed to understand better the mirrored relationship between 2D animated drawings and 3D virtual volumes. Additionally, students had the opportunity to create stylized rendered animations using Toon and Cel shaders and further explore augmented reality (AR) through Adobe Aero, bringing their designs into a parallel reality.
