A tableau vivant, French for “living picture”, is a static scene containing one or more actors or audience. It combines aspects of theatre and the visual arts. The artwork for 350 Cordova creates a stage where the audience enters in conversation with nature and encourages the occurrence of “relational experiences”. The vertical artwork becomes an inhabitable curtain.
“Tableau Vivant” playfully interacts with the pedestrian bridges that connect the two long buildings, revealing and concealing the private gardens behind. The vertical artwork transports the audience into a contemplative state and creates an unexpected personal experience along a public street, where people would otherwise be distractedly passing by.
